What is biogas technology?
Biogas is a renewable energy source that is created by the decomposition of organic matter (biomass). It can come from agricultural waste, bakery waste, food industry waste, slaughterhouse waste, sewage sludge, and many others. Biogas is produced in combined heat and power plants, and the energy obtained in this way can provide heat and electricity to production plants or homes. Biogas technology is an alternative to fossil fuels and a way to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the energy mix.
What are the benefits of this technology? Biogas as a renewable energy source is characterized by high stability and also provides a chance to get rid of organic waste. Biogas produces ecological energy and also solves the problem of having to pay for storage and waste removal.
Application of biogas in industry
Biogas plants in Poland they are used in many sectors of the economy. Until recently, they were mainly associated with agriculture, but now they are arousing interest in more and more industries. Companies want to produce energy from waste that they have in the plant, thus taking care of the environment and reducing the costs incurred. The use of biogas will be appreciated by almost every company generating biodegradable waste that is subject to biological decomposition. This includes, among others, the industry:

Biogas is ecological energy for industry, which simultaneously allows to reduce energy and heating costs of the plant. The potential of biogas in energy
The use of waste in industry through investment in a biogas plant is a trend that is still gaining popularity. At the end of 2021, only 128 biogas plants were operating in Poland, while at the end of 2024, there were already 442 installations. The European leader in biogas plants is Germany, which can boast over 11 installations.
It turns out that we still have a lot to catch up on. Especially since Poland has a high potential for biogas production. According to scientists from the University of Life Sciences in Poznań, Poland is able to produce up to 13,5 billion m³ of biogas per year (Biogas Report in Poland 2022). A biogas power plant may therefore become a standard in the Polish industry.
